ecdysozoa: Lonesome George, the last Pinta giant tortoise of his kind died today at Galapagos National Park in Ecuador, meaning the subspecies (Chelonoidis nigra abingdoni) is now extinct. His exact age was unknown, but he was believed to be about 100 years old.
